Hissinghurst's Br'er Coon Cat, "Coonie" at 4 months. His name commemorates a local writer, Joel Chandler Harris and his Uncle Remus tales. In reminiscence of Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Fox, we named our second Maine Coon Br'er Coon Cat. We decided that we couldn't come up with a better signature cat, so we named the cattery, Br'er Coon, after him.

Br’er Coon Cattery is please to announce its first ONE SHOW GRAND At 8 months of age GP Br’er Coon’s Blue Barry Br’er Coon’s EZ Rider went to the Darling Tom 400 Cat show in Florence, SC He came away as a Premier along with receiving the highly coveted People’s Choice Award as the spectators’ favorite cat at the show. He also caught the eye of Al and Rena who are providing him with a wonderful new home in South Carolina.

We initially chose to specialize in Brown Tabby Maine Coons, because to us, it optimizes a rugged, beautiful, camouflaged working cat. Additionally we have been captivated by the kaleidoscope of colors that Maine Coons come in, providing us with an extra element of excitement on birth days and adding to the uniqueness of each cat. We strive for great size, but will always view health and disposition as our first responsibilities. Our desire is to share the best of this wonderful breed with those that will appreciate, treasure and care for these Gentle Giants as we do.
